Colorado Backcountry Precision was founded through our passion, experience, and drive for success on rugged mountain hunts, and made it our year-round lifestyle. We aim to help bring out the best of your abilities in shooting in any mountain hunting situation. Whether you are a beginner looking to get started or an experienced hunter, we will help you be more successful on your hunts by taking your skills to the next level. With the support of Precision Hunting Supply, Bergara Rifles, Huskemaw Long Range Optics, Silencer Central, and Diligent Defense Company, we bring you long-range schools, private lessons, and one of the most unique archery courses in the state.
Our ranges are located on our private ranch at around 8,000 ft on the side of a mountain in Gypsum, CO. The ranch is about ten minutes south of the Gypsum exit off I-70. The rifle range is private and built on real-world hunting scenarios. As instructors and full-time big game hunting guides, we have been through every scenario and learned from our own failures. We take our time in each lesson to help you understand the details that matter before you take a shot at any live animal. Our instructors have each personally been through the same classes we bring you and, therefore, will bring you a best-in-class lesson in preparation for your upcoming season.
We offer half-day, private long-distance shooting lessons and full-day, grouped long-distance shooting classes. Our rifle range has steel targets set out at every 100 yards, starting at 400 yards to 1,000 yards, and plywood boards set at 100, 200, and 300 yards. Our lessons include long-distance rifles and familiarizing you with the unique aspects of the Huskemaw scopes paired on our Bergara rifles; internal bubble levels, yardage turrets custom-built based on the caliber and bullet that best shoots out of that specific rifle, and cleaning up proper position techniques that will allow for your cleanest shot on any terrain you may encounter. Our goal is to teach every client that joins us how to shoot consistent groups out to 1000 yards at steel, making 400, 500, and 600-yard shots at live game a much simpler task. At each lesson or class, we walk you through the unique features of our shooting systems, how they work together as a system, cover both environmental and human variables you will encounter shooting at longer distances, target acquisition, and how to properly set up when shooting at longer distances. Customers are welcome to bring their own rifles to their lessons. We are open year-round outside of active hunting seasons.
Separated from our rifle range, we also have a realistic, walkthrough 3D archery course and range. There are 32 targets of a wide variety of sizes, distances, and angles on just over a mile-long loop. At the entrance, we have 5 large block targets set up from 10 to 100 yards for those who need to practice grouping their shots and tuning in their bows before getting to the 3D course. We offer private archery lessons for anyone interested in getting started with archery equipment or for those looking to grow more comfortable with their equipment. As professional guides, we have been through every situation with our clients and can help cut the learning curve in half. We offer an annual membership, a punch pass, as well as a single-day pass. During the winter months when snow is on the ground, our archery range is closed.
